African Child Foundation visits Uganda Police chief, demands release of all political detaininee or be charged to court.
Following several reports on human rights abuses and unlawful detention arising from brutal crackdowns on opposition during the pre-election rallies between President Yoweri Museveni, 10 other candidates including popstar-turned-lawmaker Bobi Wine, The African Child Foundation led by the Regional Director, Amb. Onosakponome Donaldson visited the inspector general of the Ugandan Police demanding for the immediate release of all political detainees or be charged to court to be tried for alleged crimes. Speaking with Journalists after the meeting in the wake of the 25 January ruling by the Kampala court which said that: “The restrictions imposed on (Wine) are unlawful.” though collaborated by the police chief In its defence, the Ugandan government had not disputed the presence of security forces at Wine’s home in Kampala, but said they were there “as a preventive measure with the aim of neutralising security threats”. The regional director appealed to the Police Boss Mr Martins Okoth Ochola to heed to this request releasing all opposition leaders whom like wine being held at various police detention within the next few days in the part of honour.
